The last agricultural training program for 2019 has begun in Lh. Olhuvelifushi. This program is a part of the work schedule of the Lh. Atoll Council, and conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture by providing technical expertise to the 22 participants. In accordance to the wishes of the Lh. Atoll Council, the training mainly focused on hydroponics systems, household farming, common pest and disease control, and the proper storage of fertilizers and medicine for the plants. The amendments made to the Decentralizations Acts have included the provision of a special budget to the Atoll Councils to conduct various activities for the development of the island communities. In this regard, the Ministry hopes that the Atoll Councils will continue to include in their budget reports the various activities required for agricultural development. As we are preparing the action plan for 2020, we urge all Atoll Councils to present the proposals for agricultural training programs and the Ministry will provide the technical assistance as needed under the guidelines.
