The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid held a telephone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali today.
During the telephone call, Minister Shahid and Minister Gyawali discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and committed to further strengthen the cooperation between Maldives and Nepal. The two Ministers agreed that despite the geographical distance, they share common perspectives on key issues such as climate change, tourism, peace and security and sustainable development, and discussed new avenues to enhance Maldives-Nepal collaboration.
Both Ministers exchanged views on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in their respective countries, and expressed their deep concern with regard to the dire situation of several countries in South Asia region. The two Ministers discussed the measures being implemented to deter the spread of the pandemic both domestically and globally, and the efforts underway to protect people’s livelihoods and the economy.
Minister Shahid and Minister Gyawali also reiterated their commitment to work closely together in areas of mutual interest, at regional and international fora.
