Biography

Ali Majid was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture on April 22, 2021.

Ali Majid has 15 years’ experience in senior management roles together with a Diploma in Business Management. Prior to taking on his new role, Majid worked at the Northern Utilities Limited as a Managing Director, Director of Planning and Development and as a Board Member, during which time he contributed to developing several government policies on renewable energy, waste management as well as water and sewerage projects for the islands in the north province.

Ali Majid was also an elected Council Member and Head of Infrastructure and Development at the Secretariat of the Noonu Atoll Council.

Ali Majid received extensive training in Marine Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the Maldives Institute of Technical Education. He is highly skilled and respected in the fisheries industry, having served the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources in several roles such as Program Officer and Technician Trainee. During his time at the Ministry , Majid made several contributions to the design and development of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) and Bait FADs, particularly his innovative design of the mooring systems that significantly extended their durability.

Ali Majid also represented the Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture in various international seminars and other notable contributions and involvement include the Tsunami fisheries sector rehabilitation program, Introduction and trial of Refrigerated Seawater System (RSW) & Refrigerated Chilled water System (CSW) [FAO, Fresh fish handling project], Fisheries harbors at selected islands and design and inspection of innovative fourth generation fishing boats (Dhururasthaa) [JAICA/ FAO].
