Deputy Minister of Fisheries Marine Resources and Agriculture Hassan Nashid


Hassan Nashid Fikree was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture on July 12, 2021.

Mr. Hassan Nashid Fikree completed his graduate studies at Moray House College of Education, University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1993. Before that he attended ISTM in New Delhi, India where he followed a course with IFS. He also completed a course for English Language Teaching from University of Cambridge, UK

Mr.Nashid began his government career as Attaché, Consular Affairs at Ministry of Foreign and was based in the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka. Due to his passion for teaching he left the Foreign Service and became a trained English Language teacher. He has worked for more than 20 years as a teacher/educator. He was also a parttime lecturer at the Maldives College of Higher Education(presently Maldives National University).

His passion for education brought him to Islanders Maldives, the local company that established Billabong High International School in Male’. He was instrumental in making the school what it is today. Most of his teaching days were spent in Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya where he taught English Language to Gr.10 students sitting in the Cambridge University O Level Examination. During his tenure as the principal, Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya was the first school in Maldives to score more than 100 points in the AP Score awarded by Ministry of Education. He helped introduced Small Island Voice(SIV) Youth Forum, an initiative of UNESCO to Maldives. This was an international forum that brought together youth of small island nations.

After leaving the education sector, Mr. Nashid joined Horizon Fisheries Pvt Ltd. He was the General Manager and posted in Laamu Maandhoo where the company had its fisheries complex. While working there, he became a certified Quality Assurance Auditor.

He has contributed immensely to the education sector of Maldives. With a vision to help island communities and schools, he has travelled to every corner of Maldives where his workshops and training programs have contributed towards teacher development and brought in more productive parental engagement in every day school affairs. Mr. Nashid loves visiting schools and conducting study skills and language lessons for secondary school students.

At present, Mr. Nashid is pursuing a PG program (LME) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
