Biography

Hassan Zameel acquired a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Indira Gandhi National Open University of India in 1999, a Bachelor of Sharia and Law degree from the Maldives National University in 2017 and a Master of Laws degree from the Maldives National University in 2018. Furthermore, during his long period of service to the Maldivian Government, he attended several short-term trainings and seminars in the fields of Tourism Management, Tourism Development, Tourism Policy and Strategy, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change. He can also fluently speak, read and write, both English and Dhivehi, the local language of Maldives.

Role

Hassan Zameel was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defence on the 20th of February 2019. He currently heads the administrative functions of the Ministry of Defence under the direct supervision of the Minister. Prior to this appointment, Hassan Zameel served to the government as a civil servant in the post of the Deputy Director General, in the Ministry of Tourism. During his tenure from 1999 to 2018 in the Ministry of Tourism, he headed the Administration, Human Resources, Finance and Disaster Management Sections of the Ministry of Tourism. He was a member and chairman of the National Tender Board of the Maldives from March 2012 to July 2013. He represented the Ministry of Tourism in the boards of the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund, National Aids Council of the Ministry of Health, CEDAW Committee in the Ministry of Gender and Family, National Disaster Management Steering Committee of the National Disaster Management Centre and the WHO Committee on International Health Regulations. He was also a member of the Compliance Audit Committee of the Civil Service Commission from March 2010 to August 2015.
